Burundi Update
by Stephen Cartwright SOC Director
In June 2007, we ran the first School of Christ in Burundi (east central Africa); we had 50 students gathered from the capital city and the regions beyond to be trained for three weeks.
The School of Christ was invited to Burundi by a lady called Mrs. Nyungeko, she is married to the retired colonel of the Burundian army, and just like Lydia was a helper to the Apostle Paul, this lady has been a great blessing to the School of Christ in Burundi. Through her the Lord has opened the door to this nation.
During our stay in Burundi, God gave us the opportunity and the ability to minister to those who were in high positions of authority in this nation.
Burundi has been a country that has been torn apart by civil war, now there is a great opportunity for the True Gospel of Christ to shine forth.
Everyday all over the capital city of Bujumbura, people are meeting together after the morning hours of business and before the afternoon starts, to worship the Lord and hear the gospel preached. The most critical need at this moment in this nation is the need for sound biblical doctrine according to Godliness.
On August 6th 2007 we started the second school in Burundi, there was 40 students gathered from different parts of Burundi, these students were selected from a list of 155 people that are waiting to attend the school in this nation.
The potential is tremendous, young men who feel the call of God are waiting to be trained and sent to preach the Gospel.
With Gods help through the school of Christ we can meet this need for training in Burundi.
Present update:
We have run the School of Christ in this nation 2007 thru 2008, on a bi-monthly basis. Since 2009 the school is running once or twice a year but we continue to have great demand for the training from pastors across this nation.
