Cameroon Report

by Stephen Cartwright   SOC Director

I am in the process of traveling home, I have got a flight that leaves tonight Wednesday 27th July, and I should arrive back home Thursday evening.

What a great school we have just completed in Cameroon. It has been nine years since the School of Christ was last run in this country, at that time Bro. Clendennen came and taught the school in Yaounde (capital city). This time we ran the school in Mayuku which is located in the South West of the country.

The brother who helped facilitate the school here is called Cornelius. I first met Cornelius when the school was being run in the Republic of Benin, he had heard of the School of Christ from one of our Ethiopian directors in a pastors conference in Egypt. He had contacted Richard Goebel who is helping oversee the work in the Horn of Africa and he arranged for him to attend the school in Benin.

Cornelius went through the School and was burdened to bring the school back with him to Cameroon, and here we are two months later graduating a School of Christ class in his country.

I praise God for what he has accomplished in the lives of these brethren and look forward with expectancy to what God will accomplish through them.

I have included in the pictures attached a very strange sight, there was a great number of fruit bats that were nesting about 300 feet from where we were running the school. It would be no exaggeration to say that there was at least 500 of them nesting there during the day and in the evening they became very active eating the fruit from nearby trees.

If you have ever heard the story about the woman who swallowed a fly, then the spider, and eventually a cow. Well two times during the school we were served a specialty, it was boiled up cow skin, no waste of the cow here, we ate the inside and the outside. Life is certainly worth living, also somebody caught a python one day, killed it, and we had some for supper one night.

What a great blessing it has been to be with these people, please remember them in your prayers. These pastors have agreed to help forward the School of Christ themselves. They have plans to run evening schools in different areas and hopefully next year we will get an opportunity to run another full-time school again here in Cameroon.

God bless all of you, thank you for prayers.
Stephen Cartwright
