Tanzania Update

by Stephen Cartwright   SOC Director

I returned back from Tanzania, Africa where we had run the School of Christ in a city called Mwanza, which is south of Lake Victoria. 38 students gathered together from the local provinces hungry for the Word of God. Most of the students were pastors and leaders in churches.

The place where we ran the school was in a church building where we had no electricity and everybody sat upon wooden benches under a tin roof that got very hot in the midday sun, but Praise God everybody was happy and glad to hear the word of God and they considered themselves rich and blessed for the time that we were gathered together.

When it came time for the graduation we had bishops from different churches in the local area come and join us, who when seeing the school promised to send students to the next school that we will run. We are planning to run the school in this place again in January and to run it for 6 months and then move it to another province in that country (there are 27 provinces).

This was a letter the students wrote to the School of Christ,

"Praise The Lord" we thank God because of His love and goodness which He has bestowed upon us since we started this School of Christ and are now graduating.
God has strengthened us for His own Glory. We have undergone Theological studies in this school and have benefited strongly, it is our prayer that the Almighty God bless all who have the vision for this school and are starting it all over the world.
After being exposed to the studies we have come to the realization that the Church of Christ has lost her driving direction and allowed the world to creep into the Church.
As the graduation students we promise by the help of God to put into practice all that we have acquired in these studies.
We convey our sincere gratitude and thank to God by the way He helped and blessed the school.

Present Update:
Since the opening of the first school in Mwanza, Tanzania, the school has moved extensively throughout this nation, going to the provinces of Singida, Kahama, Bukoba, Musoma, Tabora and Arusha the impact has been tremendous upon Pastors, Bishops and the Church. God has given us a great brother called Tony Vincent to oversee the School of Christ; he has travelled from province to province running the training for pastors and leaders. Many of the Bishops that have gone through the school oversee a large number of churches; one bishop that graduated from the School of Christ oversaw 250 churches. Great is the hunger in Tanzania to hear the Word of God, they desire reality, they want to pray. It is refreshing to see these people who have very little, but yet rich in faith. We was running 2 full time schools per month because of the great demand for training, but in this year 2010 we had to reduce it to a bi-monthly program.
