Myanmar (Burma) Report

by David Jacobson   SOC Director

From Omkoe, we traveled to Nupo refugee camp. There we initiated a new school of Christ. Before the initiation, however, we preached in three different churches located in the camp: a Burmese fellowship, a Karen church, and a Chin (another ethnic group) church. The people were very hungry for the Word of God and the Holy Spirit moved mightily.

After the services, the people lingered around desiring more of the Spirit of God. They asked question after question and were eager to start the school.

We also ministered and began a school with an orphanage which housed twenty–three children ranging from twelve to seventeen years of age. They were also on fire and both sang and prayed with awesome power from the Holy Ghost.

Most of the children lacked clothing including under wear, blankets, mosquito nets, and other needful supplies. The team purchased mosquito nets for all of them. An interesting note is that up to that point in their lives, they had never had a cola drink; so we gave them our Pepsis and watched them as they had their first taste of the popular beverage.

The Pastor of the orphanage began a half day SOC with them as we were leaving.

Our team will return in a week to begin another school with the Karen church as well. After this we will begin a school for the Burmese also. We will begin with fifty students. The door has finally opened in this 18,000 people refugee camp and all were very excited to have the School of Christ come to them.

UMPIUM REFUGEE CAMP

In addition to Nupo camp, we will begin a SOC in the Umpium Refugee camp as well with an initial class of 60 students. They also are very hungry for the Word of God and are awaiting the school.

In Christ,
David Jacobson
